Crime and Safety Update from BCPD, Precinct 7

Wheel Theft Incident

Sergeant Kevin Fisher, Community Outreach Team Supervisor from the Baltimore County Police Department (Precinct 7) has shared important information with Chatterleigh Association President Richard Yoskey concerning wheel thefts and how to obtain the most accurate crime data.

Precinct Sgt. Fisher: “Our people are checking for any kind of lead that can be followed up on. I know that we’ve spoken about it before, but just to clarify, we have people that follow-up on every one of these kinds of things. The investigation might, and often doesn’t, get anywhere. But there are other eyes that get put on every one of these reports.”

Sgt. Fisher declined to comment directly on the motives or information sources of their page. However, he did say that “wheel theft is a regional trend. It’s been affecting jurisdictions all over the east coast and beyond for years. Buts it’s a very cyclical trend driven by demand on the secondary market for certain types of wheels. We may see a few cases pop up and then none for the next few months. Since September we have recorded 4 cases (including last night’s) for the entire 228 square miles of our precinct. And the comment about “its not happening here” I would assume was made as in its not happening in your neighborhood. Because it hasn’t been. Those other 3 cases were in Mays Chapel and southern Lutherville.”

Getting the Facts

Anyone “interested in obtaining factual information that isn’t speculation, please direct them to Baltimore County’s open information website,” said Sgt. Fisher.

He went on to say, “All of our crime information is on there. It’s the same information that we use, and it’s all available for people to see. It’s updated on the 20th of each month, so it’s all pretty timely info as well. (it’s a much better experience on a desktop than on mobile, fyi). It gets broken down by ZIP code so you can at least see the types of crimes being reported, as well as trends over time.
